Samsung is all set to unveil their next flagship phone tomorrow as they host a special event in New York. Samsung might have faced many woes due to the whole Galaxy Note 7 fiasco; however, it might be prudent to say that they have a radical new design to their Galaxy S series. This will be the company’s first attempt to launch a phone to draw attention away from recent shortcomings and here’s why we think it might be next best smartphone.
Brand New Design
According to numerous leaks, we can say that Samsung has ditched their traditional design language and have come up with something entirely different. If your memories serve you right, there wasn’t much difference between the S7 and S6 ; however, it doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Samsung has overhauled their design which resulted in a near all-glass front and it also has rounded corners to maximise the screen aspect-ratio.
No More Home Button
The first thing people will notice that the phone no longer sports a front home screen button. This is a result due to the increased screen size, which would have only been possible if the hardware button was removed. The home button was one of the most recognisable features of Galaxy S phones.
With the removal of the front home button, this also means that the fingerprint scanner will be moved to the back of the phone which has garnered scepticism due to its awkward placement.
Top Notch Hardware
Since the Galaxy S8 is Samsung’s most anticipated phone of this year, the company will be packing some top-notch hardware to justify the premium phone’s stature. A leaked spec sheet suggested that the S8+ will offer a 12-megapixel camera, 8-megapixel front facing camera, 64GB Internal Storage which can be expanded, and an iris scanner. The only disappointing feature was the 4GB of RAM, however, it still remains to be seen how it will affect the phone’s performance.
There is no denying that the Galaxy S7 has one of the best cameras a smartphone could have and is at par with Google’s Pixel and iPhone’s 7 Plus. It is also believed that the S8 will sport Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor, which will be on both S8+ and S8 models. For those who want to take a knock at Apple fanboys, the phone will supposedly have a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Two Different Sizes
As I mentioned above that there will be two different variants i.e. S8+ and S8, which basically means that the phone will come in two different sizes. The S8 is expected to have a 5.7-inch display whereas the S8+ might have a 6.2-inch screen. It remains to be seen whether the smaller variant will have an iris scanner or not.
An All New Virtual Assistant
Samsung’s S Voice was not too impressive when compared to other services, however, the inclusion of a brand new virtual assistant might just be the biggest addition to the phone. Samsung has already shown off its capabilities in a preview however, one still doesn’t know whether it can beat other services on offer. Samsung is looking to integrate the virtual assistant with all apps so that it is easier for users to complete tasks or make certain actions without touching the phone.
